How to Set Up an Email Account on Your iPhone

Information required to set up an Email Account on Your iPhone:

  • Kind of Email: Rediffmail, Yahoo, Gmail etc.

& full email address of yours (such as abcd@rediffmail.com etc.).

  • If your email account isn’t through AOL, Gmail, Yahoo, or MobileMe:

Your username, password, outgoing mail server (SMTP), and incoming mail server (POP or IMAP).

This info in your hand, you can simply follow the steps enlisted below.

  • First of all, open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Tap the “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” tab.
  • Tap “Add Account…”, and choose what type of account to be added.
  • If the type of account to be added is one of AOL, Gmail, Yahoo, or MobileMe:
  1. Enter your name, email address and password.
  2. Click Add.
  • Your email account is all set up for you now.
  • But, in case you tap the “Other” option i.e., the type of account to be added is other than those mentioned in (4) above, you will see a series of options most of which you can ignore. Just tap the option “Add Mail Account.”:
  1. Enter your name, email address, and password along with an optional description of the account.
  2. Tap “Next”.
  • On the following screen which is meant for the incoming mail server section, choose between POP or IMAP; IMAP is the default option, and also fill in your username.
  1. Do the same thing for the outgoing mail server section. The information would be the same as for the incoming section, but the host name in this case might be different as it refers to your SMTP server.
  2. Tap “Next.”
  3. Now, you have to choose what kind of info you want to store into this account – Mail and Notes (Mail is turned ‘on’ and Notes is turned ‘off’ by default). In case, you need to store Notes in the account, move the corresponding slider to the ‘on’ position.
  • Tap the “Save” button.
  • Your email account is now set up all ready to be used.
